For the first time in my life I have started raw feeding.
Give you three guesses what I bought today, and are you sure they eat it? ;D

Tripe? I have to draw the line at tripe! I can't have that smell stinking out my house.

they love it!! It's my dogs favourite thing! Yes it stinks but it gives them a glossy coat, shiny eyes and keeps the weight on (one of my whippets looks like a toast rack if she doesn't have tripe at least 3 times a week!) you do eventually get used to the smell and i do try and feed it outside (if its not too cold or raining!) good luck with raw food, it was the best thing i did for my dogs (even if it is a bit gross sometimes)

Yes it was tripe I'm not squeamish, but I have to say the smell of this turned my stomach. My dad asked if I was going to cook it - Not likely. It smelt bad enough uncooked. Needless to say, the dog ate it with relish. Bleugh

Can you not buy tripe frozen, or a dried version possibly, that doesn't smell so awful yet dogs still eat it and it does them good?

My hubby bought the dogs some tripe from Morrisons the other day as a treat. This stuff was meant for human consumption, was white in colour and hardly smelt at all. Quite different to their normal raw tripe mince I get from the wholesalers and a very expensive way to buy tripe I expect. However though my usual tripe stinks a bit, it doesnt usually hang around enough to cause a problem, about 4 seconds on average. The one thing I never do is cook it. I did this for some reason once, God knows why and the stench was so bad I nearly fell down dead.

I tried to give my Lurcher some tripe when we first got her and she needed to put on weight. She's the one who can't stand the smell and won't even come into the room if she gets the scent of some tripe!

All depends where you live really Julie and how useful your butcher is. Many butchers dont actually butcher the meat in their shop premises nowadays so things such as pet mince or chicken carcasses are not always so readily available. I buy all of my raw (mainly mince) from firms I have found on the internet. Having 4 dogs and a small chest freezer, this is very cost effective for me but if you are unable to freeze, the delivery costs would possibly be prohibitive for you. You can buy raw mince from anywhere of course but it will always be dearer if it is produced for human consumption. Have a good look on the net and see if there are any wholesalers near you or shout out if you'd like some links posted.
