My mum and dad (69 & 76) lost their whippet just short of his 16th birthday. They had him since he was a puppy and was a great member of the family.
They were both devastated by it for a long time and my brothers advised them that due to their ages and the stress losing him has caused, it's best if they just enjoy their retirement.
Now we're not so sure. They clearly miss having a dog around to look after and one of our main worries was exercising the dog instead of thinking that it actually keeps mum and dad active instead of just sitting at home.
We think another dog would be great for body and soul etc
They're based in Essex and if anyone has any whippets up for adoption they'd definitely be interested. I don't think a puppy would be suitable this time around but a young dog would be great.
All the best,
Smokey

Welcome, Smokey, and good luck to your parents finding a new canine companion. Have they thought about an older rescue? Oldies often get overlooked and might fit in better with their lifestyle

I just would prefer them to have a good few years before they have to go through putting their dog down again (touch wood)

My whippety thing is almost 17 now and she is going strong and keeping my collies in check so please consider an oldie - they still have years to give and are often overlooked..
