just a quick update on brian........ stitches out and good to go albeit a bit gentle for the next week just to allow a bit of strengthening to the wound site. i can tell he is getting better as he is now wanting more cuddles. his personality is still a bit standoffish at times, but this is because he really does like his own space - he is not grumpy or moody with it - just quiet. sometimes i think this is also due to Nigel crowding him at times, to the point of pushing in on the couch space. brian has been hard to fathom i think due to having been ill with the wound so feeling a bit sorry for himself; but i do think he is a dog that is reserved with his feelings till he feels more trusting. it is a lovely sight to see though when he does wag his tail; and he is doing it more and more. nigel, well what more can i say that i havent already said?? he is just a cuddle monster and keen to give and receive affection. both have been good in house with no accidents. at first i just put them both out together when ever i was up and around, then learnt to read the signals - and i must admit it is great to have dogs that let me have a lie in !!! what is even better is that these 2 guys know the word WEE WEE - trust me, they really can WEE on command !! i have been out twice in the evenings approx 4 hours [meal and parish meeting - not together!] no accidents and also no destruction. what i did was get some stuffed bones plus the pig chews and gave them as treats. i dont use these treats apart from going out and it has seemed to work. my neighbour has said she has heard howling so that is something that i may need work on but it is early days.
walking is getting easier; light lead pulling but not enough to pull your arms out of the sockets. they understand the word heel but need a bit more work. they do have a prey drive that i would say is medium to high. on the lead they will pull a bit more and bark or whine but stop most of the time if told to 'leave'. however off lead you probably won't have a chance!!
i would advise a home with out a cat as well. i have a savvy cat, but even she is struggling - it probably doesnt help that 2 dogs can be a bit too much 'in her face' and by choice keep her in the other room whilst i am fostering these 2 boys.
out on walks they are good with other dogs; small jack russells through to large GSD. barking, bum sniffing, mounting [!] you name it, they pretty much do not get fazed by it.
i can tie them up outside the local postoffice and they are well behaved whilst i am inside. if i stop to chat they are polite and quiet.
i really do think these guys would be better suited to a larger outdoor area than i have and as i think i am limited in free running space as my farmer fields are still too close to roads for comfort i worry they cant stretch their legs as much as i would like them to - they seem happy with their walks though.
so, more updates next week.... any questions feel free to ask! i would love someone to have these 2 great guys as they have so much love to give..... and you want to hear them talk in the morning when they greet you....... honestly its because they are so glad to see you ;D

ooo that sounds exciting !! i really would love them to find a forever home ASAP.... especially as Brian can be a sensitive soul and i dont want him to be too confused or hurt after just starting to trust.!!
