Hello Scruplers
This is by way of an intro. All comments, advice etc welcome.
I'll start by saying that I was introduced to greyhounds at the age of about 4. My grandfather and uncle used to race them, not too successfully, in Birmingham at Hall Green, Kings Heath and Perry bar. I was allowed occasionally to take Flash, our fastest dog, for a walk but only ever under supervision. He had a liking for the taste of cat, rabbit and piglet and he was very fast at slipping his collar!
I used to go to the races and a more recent trip to Perry Bar track in Birmingham has bought back memories.
Anyway, leaping on about 60 busy dog-less years I'm pretty much retired and seriously considering a whippet as a pet. I met one the other day and we hit it off instantly but he already owns a person so I need to look at rescue or something similar. I think I'm hooked and my wife approves. I really like greyhounds but a whippet is probably even better. We've a biggish empty house in a rural area now with a decent garden and the kids off and married.
To be honest, the only thing that worries me is the responsibility to the dog. I'm sure the exercise would do me good, though, as I'm still quite active. Couldn't catch a whippet though!
I'm guessing that things have changed since I walked our Flash. There was no thought of picking up poo in those days.
Anyway, no dog yet, but starting to look.
Cheers
