Love the idea of a forum.
I am CC and I'm female, married with two kids at uni, living in NW. Self-employed and stupidly busy, haven't got the work-life balance thing right just yet but luckily work from home most of the time.
I have two dogs, a rescue rough-coat lurcher from GAL, Scotland, who is 12 now; and a cheeky 18 month old whippet-lurcher I started out fostering for Scruples... ha. Look how that turned out! My mum lives with us too and she has a border/lakeland terrier - a barrel on legs with a very bad temper! We also have two long suffering tough cookie cats and a one-eyed rabbit.
I like to write, read, walk, swim, listen to music... my dogs like to chase squirrels and sneak into bedrooms to curl up on freshly made beds, especially when dripping with mud.
We had a whippet when I was a kid and my dad then had a series of rescued lurchers and greyhounds - longdogs are the only kind of dogs for me.

Hi im Ruth, and live in Preston, Lancashire. Im self employed providing secretarial, typing/admin services. I have a daughter coming up for 21 in a couple of weeks who is away at Liverpool uni, 3rd yr medical. My partner mike is a courier and travels daily up to scotland and back, its great as from about 4am, I get the whole bed to myself!!
I had a heinz 55 and a GSD that both passed away about 15yrs ago, and then when i met mike it was love me love my dog.... she passed away about 2yrs ago now, she was a heinz but we knew her mum was a corgi......... and she certainly had the temprament to go with that breed !! About a year ago i privately fostered a whippet for a friend, of a friend, who was hospitalised and thats when the love affair began ! So I am new to Scruples and have been registered for only a few weeks. I like to read, sing, watch good psycho horror movies; only so I can guess whats coming next !! as they are usually very predictable.

Hello, I'm Jane. I'm a playwright and scriptwriter (TV drama) and I also teach and mentor new writers, working from home and for a couple of universities in the NW at Salford and Edge Hill. I've lived all my life in Salford. My husband has now retired (he was a maintenance fitter at Kellogg's) and plays golf mostly now. We have four children aged from 45 to 19 who have given us grandchildren and now great granchildren, which seems incredible as I'm still a teenager (in my head.) We have two dogs - Molly, a greyhound (rescued by GRWE in 1999 and still going strong) and Trix, a whippet X (Scruples pup born January 2012)and are currently fostering Rosie (4 year old silver fawn whippet) for Scruples. I love to walk my girls, and I can fit this around my working day, and I am also a gym rat!

Hi, I'm Natalie. I'm a mum of 2 ( 7yrs and 10yrs). As a child I had a whippet who was the centre of my life. Now as an adult I have a Rhodesian ridgeback who is 6 yrs called Belle and and a 3 yr old whippet that we rescued June 2011 from another whippet rescue centre called Finn. We knew we wanted to rescue a whippet and luckily when we were looking scruples had hardly any up for adoption but we continued to support in other ways. I work part time as a teaching assistant in reception at an infants school. We are currently considering fostering as I see all the messages about how many dogs need help, my only concern is - could I let them go? We are in Essex although are originally from Kent. My dogs love to play tugga with the ferret toys that have no stuffing - it's so funny because the whippet always wins!

I'm Carrie and live on the Isle of Wight although I'm originally from Lancashire with time spent in Winchester, Leicester, Kettering and Cheshire (not too far from Wilmslow). I share my life with my wonderful fiancé and our three dogs. Our oldest dog is a Lurcher who was found at my old workplace, starved and on the point of death when found and with a horrific leg injury. The wonderful vet we took her to said her injury could only have come from a snare and he tried his best to save her leg, but in the end it had to be amputated as she'd knock and damage it so easily. Doris (Dory) has been a tripod for nearly 5 years now. Last year we had to have our old Black Lab Cross Ben PTS and at that time we looked at getting a Whippet because Dory is Whippet x Staffie. In the end we got Harry, another Lurcher, from Lurcher Link. We think Harry is possibly Greyhound x Collie and is about 6 years old. The idea had been planted about getting a Whippet though, so after we moved and now have a 1/2 acre garden we decided that we'd get a third dog. So we got Toby from Scruples. He's supposed to be 6 years old, but we get laughed at when we tell people that as nobody believes us, he's definitely the youngest 6 year old we've ever met as in many ways his behaviour is quite puppyish. The dogs love playing in the garden or on the beach (well, the boys play on the beach, Dory doesn't play on walks). All three dogs love playing with balls and Harry and Toby just love frisbees. For treats they love having antlers to chew.

Hi. I'm Anne I live in Lancashire. I got my first whippet Alfie two years ago. I have owned different breeds before but find Alfie has a unique loving nature and is so gentle. I wouldn't be without him. Alfie lives alongside two bossy pugs. An interesting combination but it works well. In my spare time I run a pet dog training club and all the money we make is donated to different animal charities to help them with their good work.
Looking forward to meeting new friends on the Scruples site and picking up useful information.

Hi! I'm Shona and I live in West Norfolk with my 6 dogs (3 Beddy/Whippets, 2 Whirriers and a Whippet ). I used to have Golden Retrievers but as I got older I decided smaller was better and got my first Beddy/Whip 9 years ago and was smitten and had to have MORE I'm now retired and spend most of my time walking the dogs in the Norfolk countryside and trying to stop them chasing hares, rabbits and deer--with varying amounts of success! And there's room for another Whippet if the right one turns up at Scruples

Hi, I'm Janette and I live in the NW. There's just me and my husband, with 4 collies (raning for 7 to 2) and a wild whippet called Tegan, who's supposed to be Dave's dog, but has decided she's mine! Tegan is 3 and is beautiful, if the naughtiest dog I've ever come across. She steals, demands food/cuddles, leads the other dogs astray, but I love her to bits! I've done a couple of home checks for Scruples. I'm due to retire from teaching next year, and I can't wait!!!!! Don't have much time for anything other than school, dogs... agility and obedience. Just wait until next year!

Hi everyone, I'm Terry and I live in Devon with Spooky (the world's most cowardly whippet) and Scout (the world's bossiest whippet), Mystic the cat, Einstein, Grandma and Miss Marple, the ex-bat chooks and Anthony, my long-suffering husband.
Why whippets? I've loved them since I was a child (many years ago!), our neighbours had two rescue whippets and I adored them. It was only when I stopped working away from home that it was possible to have a dog, and there was really no other option for me, it was always going to be whippets (but I'd dearly love to squeeze a greyhound in too, just need to keep working on Anthony!).

Hi, my name is Hels and I live in Gloucestershire. I currently don't have a dog. My husband loves Whippets and I was hoping to get some advice as we have never had a dog before. Whilst we live in a little house, we have a very out doors lifestyle. I spend a lot of time dinghy sailing and my husband currently spends the time I am sailing walking other people's dogs round the lake and we'd quite like one of our own!!! The most important thing to me is that I have a happy and healthy dog. We don't have a garden, but have access to lots of outside space. We are ready and totally prepared to adjust our lifestyle to meet the dog's needs. I am reducing my hours at work so that I am part time and can pop home lunchtimes to walk and keep any dog company. Can anyone recommend any books on how to train puppys? I am obviously going to invest in training classes, but would like to read up and be informed and aware of the commitment we are going to take on before we seriously start contacting breeders. Any advice, suggestions or thoughts would be gratefully received! Many thanks

Hi
I am Lucy, married with 2 children. I work full time as a lecturer in mental health nursing. We live north of Bristol next to the river severn. We have 1 whippet/lurcher called Woodie, which we got from Scruples when he was 9 weeks old. We also are fostering the beautiful Otis, who is 8 months old. One day (a long time ago), I found myself in Bristol Dogs Home, going all goey over a rather enthusiastic lurcher. We ended up going home together, with an RSPCA helper saying `rather you than me'! At the time I didn't understand what he meant, but it soon became apparent that Mouse was more than just enthusiastic - 12 years later she finally became the perfect dog!!! So here is where our love affair with sighthounds began, we are now on our 3rd lurcher/whippet/greyhound/irishwolfhound. we love walking, spending time eating and drinking and curling up in front of the fire. I think our hobbies are shared by our dogs - so a match made in heaven ;D
