To Hels... it's wonderful that you are putting so much effort into preparing to have a dog, but why 'contact breeders' for a puppy when there are so many fantastic dogs and puppies needing a home... Scruples have puppies for adoption regularly and most of their older dogs are healthy and wonderful... please, please consider adopting a rescue whippet. I am sure you would never regret it! xxx

Hi I'm Karla and I live with my hubby Mark down in Portsmouth. We currently have 5 sighthounds in our life Vinnie - 9yr old Deerhound cross lurcher, Dylan - 8yr old saluki/afghan/beardie cross lurcher, Dexter - 3yr old whippet/grey/bull lurcher, Shylo - 4 yr old greyhound and little Reggie - 4-5 yr old whippet cross staffie. We hadn't planned to have 5 dogs but got heavily involved with a few rescues and started fostering and 2 dogs became 3 dogs became 4 dogs and so on Wouldn't swap them for the world though as they are an amazing group of dogs who get on fabulously with each other and continue to welcome fosters into their home on a regular basis We have a little wish list of dogs and a whippet is right up there, so one day we will share our home with a rescue whippet. We have sworn not to increase our pack though as 5 is our maximum if we want to continue fostering - if we fail again we can't take anymore in. We love to spend time with the dogs and try to give them a varied life as possible - being close to the New Forest is fabulous as they love going for walks out there. We meet up with other sighthound owners for group walks on a regular basis and all our holidays are planned with the dogs in attendance They are my children and my world does revolve around them

My name is Katie, and I live on the edge of a village in Bucks with my husband and 3 children. We are getting our first puppy in 2 weeks, and are very excited. We're getting a boy - fawn blue brindle - with just the sweetest face, and are calling him Eddie. We chose a whippet principally because they are so sweet natured. The more we learn about them, the more we are delighted with our choice. I'm clearly an amateur dog owner, and am actively seeking advice, albeit I realise that there are many different approaches and opinions which are equally valid.

Hi there, We're based in Berkshire, no pets atm but hopefully that will change soon We 'met' whippets a few years ago and have loved them ever since. Both of us would love to be able to invite a rescue dog into our home and can't believe how and why some of these beauties have ended up in care! Speak soon, Mark & Tan

Hi my name is Carl i live in York and we have three hounds. First is Eddison a 7 year old arthritic brindle Bull x lurcher. He is such a lovely lad, he was in the RSPCA home in York and due to his need of constant pain medication he is a long term foster. Then we have Poppy the 2yr old ex racing black Greyhound who often believes she is only the size of a jack russell. She is also the main instigator of any mischief we come home too. Lastly the totally mental Mogwai the whippet x. She is a fawn colour with a black/grey mask. Very cuddly and sleeps under the covers in our bed between missus and i. We got Mog because she was offered on Facebook for £150 needing a new home as she wasn't spayed and quite thin we felt the best thing to do was to take her in and get her on the right track before looking to find her a new home. We took her for free in the end a her owner as we had sight hounds already via the pictures on our Facebook and she could see they were looked after. I have always like sighthounds so sleek and elegant in whatever they do. Dogs favourite thing to do is of course sleep followed by sleep and eating. Update: We now have four as Rip the whippet didnt make it into a foster home

Hi, I'm Kerry, based in Sheffield. I'm a construction manager with a soft spot for sighthounds My life with dogs began with a pedigree Yorkie, who I mothered and babied until she forgot she was a dog! We do lots of peripheral jobs for local rescues and this is how the love affair with sighthounds began. When dropping into the local pound, we were chosen by a gorgeous lurcher - she placed a paw on my other halfs shoulder and stole her heart..........from there we taught the yorkie to be a dog, and never looked back! We registered to volunteer and as potential adopters with Scruples and in January 2012 we fostered Willow, a gorgeous stray boy with foxy features. He took a while to settle, and by that time we couldn't let him go We failed with our first foster, but there have been plenty since. We now have Billy (grippet), Willow (foxy x whippet), Tallulah (yorkie) and our foster boy Oscar (whippet), their favourite things are running around like crazies in one huge gang, and sleeping on anything other than the floor! My favourite things are giving them everything they need and the pleasure of helping more and more dogs!

hi my name is Jan and I live in Somerset quite close to the Dorset border so plenty of jurassic coastline. My husbands name is Neil and we have been married for 10 years. I work for a local social housing group as a senior officer for retirement living. We sadly had to have our wonderful greyhound Jasper put to sleep last week after 10 wonderful years together. Having previously had whippets before Jasper we would love to become scruples parents to 2 whippets that are in need of a loving home and king size bed. We are currently waiting to have our adoption form accepted so please say a little prayer for us

1) Who are you? Real name is Dave but everyone on the computer calls me Rubes 2) Where are you (rough area please- no precise details)? I live in North Wales at the moment. 3) How many dogs do you have? What breeds, ages etc? Sadly I no longer have a dog after my beloved Shep passed away. 4) What made you get/look into getting a whippet? A friend of mine in work who lives in the same road as myself has two lovely friendly and playful whippets. Beautiful dogs. 5) What's your favourite thing to do I like going to the local area and strolling around. (I like astronomy too but sadly I am usually too tired at the unearthly hours needed. 6) What's your dogs favourite thing to do. Shep used to like chasing a football and going on walks. 7) Is there anything else you would like to tell everyone? I am a real dog lover and although I was looking at a rescued greyhound I reconsidered that option after seeing my friends dogs. I am unsure if greyhounds and whippets can be housed together. Just now i am being careful and checking as much as possible before I decide to get a dog (I would prefer two or more so they have company when they have to be left at home. I will not actively look for any dogs until I am satisfied that I can give them the home they deserve. I like dogs far too much to inflict any sort of unhappiness on them. There will be times that they will have to be left alone in the house and until I am satisfied they can be happy and I can ensure i give them a good life during these hours I will not get a dog (or dogs) [/b] [/quote]

Hi, I'm Mike. I live in Lancashire and have two Whippets who are 7 months old. They're called Alfie and Imp and are beautiful boys. I have wanted a whippet ever since I met my friend's dog, Jessie. She was a real sweetheart and I knew right away that a whippet was for me. I was unwilling to get a dog until I stated working from home. These two came through Scruples after Christmas. I didn't think I'd end up with two but I'm so pleased I did as they are the best of friends and company for one another. I love walking them and watching them run around the football field. The boys like sleeping and eating. They turn their noses up when it comes to going out for a walk on a cold morning! I feel like that some mornings too!

Hi Im Kathy I live in North Wales. I am a veterinary Nurse and a lecturer in 2 colleges. I own a whippet cross greyhound called Tilly. She's 3 years old. She is very beautiful. (not at all biased) She was an extremely naughty puppy when she figured she could reach the kitchen work tops - we now Tilly proof everywhere! Her poky nose gets her into trouble! Can never stay mad at her though! I grew up with 2 greyhounds and a friend was helping someone rehome some whippies cross greyhounds and now Im hooked on the whippies! So characterful. Looking to get Tilly a friend too some day. Tilly's favourite thing to do is lounge on the sofa!!! And she loves her ragger toys too and too run run run..... She never ceases to make me laugh!
